Inside Freedom in Story
Freedom in Story provides an opportunity for Freedom Academy graduates to expand their training over three days of lecture-style teaching and facilitator-led small group story work. In this next level of training, you should come prepared to engage honestly with the content and fellow attendees.
What is Story work?
Story Work is an innovative methodology that integrates psychology and theology to engage the impact of trauma and abuse with compassion and care. It embraces the whole person, including the mind, body, and soul, and explores core narratives shaped by relationships, family systems, sexual development, and experiences of abuse, addressing both personal and collective trauma.
Participants bring a written story of harm from their childhood to engage in a small group setting, guided by a professionally trained trauma story practitioner. They are led through a proven framework for engaging and reclaiming traumatic experiences through a narrative process anchored in biblical, Spirit-led, and trauma-informed truth.
Through this process, participants begin to understand how their stories have shaped them and are invited into a process of restoration with God, where they can reclaim their stories and live more freely with an embodied experience of faith, hope, and love. They are also given essential context and understanding through holding others’ stories of harm within the group, providing a trauma informed lens that transforms the way they lead and love others.
This modality for engaging and healing trauma builds on the lifelong work of leaders like Dan Allender, Cathy Loerzel, and Adam Young in the field of trauma and abuse recovery.
At Freedom Movement we believe healing is not only possible; it is our birthright as children of God and a central part of the greater gospel story God is unfolding in our lives and in the world around us for our good and His glory.
